Established in 1971, the Arkwright Society is an educational and conservation charity formed to promote and protect the industrial heritage of Cromford Mills.  The site, built by Sir Richard Arkwright from 1770s, is universally regarded as one of the most important heritage sites in the world, and lies within the beautiful Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The large mill complex includes a visitor exhibition, business centre, catering, and a bustling events and conference programme.  Our school educational offer is award winning and our enthusiastic volunteer team play a vital role in delivering a rich visitor heritage experience, making this a uniquely vibrant workplace.

This multifaceted role seeks candidates with strong operational management and practical repair skills to ensure effective site management and maintenance. We require candidates with direct experience in leading maintenance and facilities operations at comparable sites, along with exceptional leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

The Buildings and Facilities Manager will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and planning priority maintenance and repair work.
  • Leading practical repair tasks, (in-house or with external contractors).
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to strengthen local and wider engagement.
  • Manage and support contractual arrangements with service providers and suppliers to support our tenants and delivery of our site management.

Salary: £35,000 per annum + benefits
