Come and spend the day at Cromford and learn all about waterpower from 1750 to the present day. Starting at 11am join us for a close look at our modern waterwheel currently generating up to 25% of our electricity needs. A wonderful modern innovation on the site of Arkwright’s waterwheel. Meet some of the people who made this happen and find out how today’s waterpower works.
Then enjoy a delicious lunch in one of our café’s including complementary tea and coffee.
Then join our afternoon tour at 1pm to learn more about the history of waterpower on the site and how Richard Arkwright harnessed the power of water to revolutionise manufacturing and mass production.
Ticket costs £20 and includes a voucher for a free tea or coffee.
This tour is part of the wider National Mills Weekend throughout the UK and is a must for all you history buffs and budding local historians. It really is a story of water and how the Derwent Valley enabled indistrial pioneers like Sir Richard Arkwright to mass produce goods in factories for the first time.
Why not make a whole weekend of it and visit our neighbours as well?
