Relaunch of Sunflower Scheme

In the Spring of 2024 Cromford Mills hosted Grace Lilliman on a work placement. Grace was studying SEND under Lecturer Wendy Conrad in the Institute of Education. Grace worked with Elizabeth Woledge to reinvigorate and relaunch our sunflower scheme which supports visitors with hidden disabilities. Grace worked with the cafe staff, the visitor welcome team and the tour guides to ensure that we communicate the range of accommodations that can be made.

Grace’s input remains part of the offer on a daily basis. She has helped the staff integrate accessibility into the daily offer and also gained valuable work experience herself.

Wendy Conrad’s Grace’s Tutor said she was pleased to see how grace started to think about the wider impact of a accessibility and how it had to sit comfortably within the working practices of a large organisation. She also was pleased that Grace gained copy writing experience working with the Marketing Manager and Head of Engagement.

Grace said she enjoyed her placement and felt she had gained in confidence. She was proud to have helped us to make a difference
