We are delighted to announce that Éilis Scott will become our new Chief Executive Officer from 1st August 2022
Éilis has enjoyed a career of 27 years dedicated to the conservation and regeneration of Historic Buildings, particularly those with industrial heritage. Her current role is Head of Midlands Region, Historic England, which has included a spell acting as the Regional Director; her previous roles at Historic England (Midlands) included being Principal Adviser on strategy and projects for Heritage at Risk and an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. Prior to this, she worked on the conservation of the historic environment in local government.
The Trustees believe that at this stage of our development, she will bring to the Society exactly the knowledge and experience we need to progress our ambition to complete the regeneration of Cromford Mills, in particular, the conservation of the historic ‘First Mill’, and bring all our buildings back into social and economic use. She has:
- deep understanding of conservation and planning requirements
- expansive knowledge of funders and their requirements
- wide networks of relevant organisations and key people nationally and regionally
- substantial experience of working with local government
- substantial knowledge of working with other heritage building trusts
She is also very familiar with the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and knows Cromford Mills well, having been a key liaison officer for England Heritage (as it was then) during the Cromford Creative (Building 17) Project.
When Éilis joins us on 1st August 2022, our current CEO, Simon Wallwork, will take on the role of Commercial Director with responsibility for developing our catering and retail facilities and expanding our events programme, a key contribution to enhancing visitor experience at Cromford Mills.
We shall warmly welcome Éilis to Cromford as our new CEO and we should like to express our great appreciation to Simon for carrying out that role for the last five years.
